Delhi Riots 2020: Order on Umar Khalid bail plea adjourned to March 21
The bail petition of former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Umar Khalid was on Monday adjourned to March 21 in a case related to the incidents that allegedly led to riots in the North-Eastern regions of the national capital in February, 2020, leading to death of 53 people and injuries to more than 700.
The Karkardooma Court of Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat, which was set to deliver its verdict in the matter today, deferred it, following the filing of written notes by the prosecution.
The order was to be originally pronounced on March 14, but had been listed for March 21.
Khalid, along with several others, was booked under the stringent provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for being the ‘masterminds’ behind the riots.
Violence had erupted during the agitation against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the national capital.
Apart from Khalid, other JNU students, including Natasha Narwal and Devangana Kalita, Jamia Coordination Committee member Safoora Zargar, former AAP councillor Tahir Hussain, activist Khalid Saifi and several others have been booked under UAPA in the case.
The Counsel on behalf of Khalid had moved the bail application by submitting that the accused has been falsely implicated in this case and the prosecution has failed to prove the case against him.

Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat, after hearing argument on behalf of the Prosecution and Defence Counsel, adjourned the matter for pronouncement of order on March 21.
